The longest vacation since I became an adult is a 3 day 2-night stay in Puerto Princesa, Palawan (Philippines). I remember it didn’t cost me much, it was just about $500 give or take a little. It already covered all my expenses while I’m there (except airfare), accommodation, food, tours. In all fairness, I had fun on that “budgeted” vacation. So I can’t imagine how much more fun I can have with these most expensive vacation spots in the world. Anyway, expensive or not, vacation is important for everyone. So let’s check out the list and see which ones we can afford.

 

1. Seychelles

Africa. This country is an archipelago in the Indian Ocean. Tourism in this country became a significant industry when their first airport opened in 1971. If you can afford $11,000/ night then you can get the best of Seychelles has to offer. Mind you though, you’d want to book your reservation early because these $11,000 a night villas are very limited. There are only 11 of them and they are located at the best island in the archipelago.

 

2. Wilderness Safaris Bisate Lodge

Rwanda. If you are fascinated with volcanoes then this is the perfect destination for you. Like the Seychelles villas, the lodges in this area is also limited. There are only 6 of them and they resemble traditional Rwandan homes. Fireplaces in the center of the living room and all. Rooms rates starts at $1,100 per person/ night.  Guests also have the option to take part in the reforestation and conservation plead for the area and mountain gorillas.

 

3. The Hilltop Villa

Laucala Island Resort, Fiji. Laucala is a privately owned island and on top of its highest peak is the Hilltop Villa. A night here costs a whopping $44,000. This is a prime choice for people who want to vacation in complete privacy and seclusion. It is already a private island, to begin with hence only a private road leads to it. And don’t think that just because you have money to spend means you can get to it with a swish of your platinum card. You also need to get the owners approval first.

 

4. The Penthouse Apartment

Zermatt, Switzerland. Apparently, Switzerland has a lot to offer more than the luscious chocolates and world-class financial services. Zermatt offers skiing slopes for all skill levels and on top of that (literally and figuratively) is a 5-star chalet that can house up to 13 guests. It is equipped with all luxury furniture and fixtures plus an in-house gourmet chef. Rate starts at $57,000 and can reach up to $191,000 a week.

 

7. Maharajah’s Pavilion

Raj Palace in Jaipur, India. Golden is the best word to describe this paradise. $15,000 a night entitles you a four-floor apartment fit for a king. Imagine jacuzzi on a rooftop with a full view of Jaipur. On the second floor of the structure is a private museum housing the Throne and Bolsters of the Thakur Sahib.

 

8. Musha Cay Island

Although it is owned by the illusionist David Copperfield, these are real islands that are developed for the richest. Like most islands, you can snorkel and dive fish here, water is clear and unpolluted and you will definitely love the seclusion. The main island that can house a max of 24 guests is “guarded” by 3 smaller islands.

Boa Constrictor

Boa constrictors can grow between three and thirteen feet, depending on its location as well as the availability of food/ prey. Female boa constrictor can grow more especially in captivity. Their captive life expectancy is 20 to 30 years and they are usually fed mice & chicken. They can be tamed that is why they have become popular among exotic pet owners.

 

Mexican Red-Legged Tarantula

This type of tarantula belongs to the docile kind that is why it is popular among collectors and exotic pet owners. They are slow growing and females can live longer than the male. It is very reluctant to bite even when it feels threatened, making it a little less dangerous as opposed to its cousins. Its primary line of defense, like other tarantulas, is its urticating hairs.

 

Madagascar Hissing Cockroach

These cockroaches, as the name implies are native to African island of Madagascar. Unlike your household cockroaches, the Hissers are flightless. They do not have wings but they can scale smooth surfaces like glass. They can grow up to 3 inches long and have a lifespan of up to 5 years in captivity.

 

Green Iguana

Green Iguanas or just commonly referred to as Iguanas are native to South and Central America. They have a calm disposition hence making them an ideal pet. They can grow up to 1.5 meters from head to tail. It can be a bit challenging to care for especially for amateur collectors/ hobbyist due to its needs like specialized lighting, etc.

 

Southern Tamandua

Tamandua also was known as anteater is a solitary animal and is a native of South America. It commonly feeds on ants, bugs, and termites. They can be colored tan, brown or blonde depending on the exact area of origin.

 

Flying Squirrel

More like gliding squirrels because they do not really fly like birds or bats does. They are omnivores and can feed on fruits or other smaller animals like birds. What’s interesting about them is that their internal organs are visible through their skin.

 

Fennec Fox

This breed of a fox is native to North African Sahara desert. They have a lifespan of 14 years when held in captivity. The fennec fox is one of the only two species of fox that can be held in captivity as pets though they are far from domesticated like dogs or cats.

 

Chestnut-Spotted Genet

They are not cuddly pets and don’t go well in groups. The only way they can live with cats and dogs is if it grows up with them. Change in environment and caretakers can be stressful to genets.

 

Capybara

Capybaras are the largest rodent in the world and can weigh up to 70 kg. They are herbivores and can stay underwater for as long as 5 mins. They are of South American origin and in some areas are hunted for their meat and pelt.

 

Emperor Scorpion

This species of scorpion is native to West Africa, it can live up to 6 to 8 years and is one of the largest among the scorpion family. They are black in color but glows into a pastel green when exposed to ultraviolet light, not that there’s a reason for you to have an ultraviolet light lying around somewhere…

There are 2 different kinds of pet owners. Those who are really just fond of having pets and will keep and care for a cat or two around. There are also those who love (and borderline obsessed with) pets. I even saw an article about this lady who currently has a thousand cats under her care and had to give up her house, car and wedding ring. Since I’ve been writing about a lot of expensive things lately like chocolates and toys, reading it got me wondering about the most expensive pets there is. Let me share with you, my dear readers, what I found…

 

1. The Green Monkey

Please don’t confuse her with the Sabaeus monkey for The Green Monkey is actually a thoroughbred racehorse who was sold for $16,000,000 in an auction in 2006.

 

2. Missy The Cow

Missy came from the Holstein breed of cows which are known for having the highest production of dairies. However, more than her dairy produces, she was purchased by a group of Canadian investors for $1,200,000 in 2009 for her embryo in hope to produce more of the same breed hence more exponentially increase dairy production. Missy actually wasn’t the only expensive cow purchased as there is a yearly “Cow of the year” contest held in Canada.

 

3. Tibetan Mastiff

From the name itself, you would know that one of this dog breeds origin in Tibet along with China, Mongolia, and nearby countries. The breed was originally developed to guard livestock against wolves attacks. The most expensive Tibetan Mastiff was bought in China for a whopping $582,000.

 

4. Sir Lancelot Encore

Sir Lancelot Encore is a labrador that cost $155,000. The price came up to this due to the procedure from which he came to be. He is a clone of another labrador named Sir Lancelot who unfortunately was diagnosed and died of cancer. The family that owned him loved him so much that they had him cloned.

 

5. White Lion Cubs

Apparently, wild & dangerous animals are allowed to be kept as pets in some countries. White Lions are a rare breed of lions that are so coveted by wild pet lovers. Its cubs currently has a price tag of $138,000

 

6. Rare Stag Beetle

A rare stag beetle was sold by a Japanese breeder for $89,000. Hence, making it one of the most expensive pets as well as the most expensive insect that was sold.

 

7. Palm Cockatoo

The first parrot on the most expensive pets list, the palm cockatoo can be sold at around $16,000. Unlike most parrots that are usually full of bright colors, this one is black. They are native to Queensland, Australia, particularly in Cape York Peninsula area.

 

8. Hyacinth Macaw

Can be sold for as much $14,000, Macaws or new world parrots have a variety of subspecies. One of them even belongs to the 10 longest lifespan animals. The Hyacinth Macaw though is native to central and eastern South America and is identified to be the longest/ largest among its species.

 

9. De Brazza’s Monkey

Large and colorful bills (beaks) are the toucan’s hallmark. They are usually forest dwellers and non-migratory. And although they are believed to be able to lay 21 eggs max, they are never found in a big flock. These birds can be sold for as much as $10,000.
